Tracking HTML Emails through Salesforce.com

This is one of the coolest and most underused features of Salesforce.com. Salesforce.com gives you the ability to send an HTML-based email and track it to see when it was first opened, when it was last opened and how many times it has been opened. From a sales perspective, email tracking is incredibly useful. Salesforce.com has clearly thought through the process because they make it very easy for us Salesforce.com Admins to do. The key here is really just educating your users that this can be done.

Tracking HTML Emails through Salesforce.com is very simple. Follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the Detail page for any contact, lead or person accounts.
  2. Find the second titled "Send An Email" and click the button that says "Send An Email".
  3. On the next screen, make sure that you have selected HTML. Shown bellow.  click to enlarge
  4. Type and send your email
  5. Finally, each time you go back to this detail screen you'll see the information on when the HTML email was opened and how many times etc. Shown bellow. click to enlarge

Like I said before, this is a pretty simple and slick solution to a problem that many of your users have. With a little proactive education on your part, they can utilize this feature and start tracking emails immediately.
