Turning on debug logs in Salesforce.com

Debug logs are a valuable tool to any system administrator. When you move to the world of web applications, they become essential. Salesforce.com has provided a nice and easy way to create, view and delete debug log information for users within Salesforce.com setup.

In order to create a debug log in Salesforce.com, simply follow the steps below:

Step 1 -  Login as a System Administrator to Salesforce.com and click on the Setup link.

Step 2 - On the left side navigation under "Administration Setup", expand the Monitoring section.

Step 3 - Click on the "Debug Logs" option (shown below)

Step 4 - If no debug logs have been created you will see a basic screen with no rows in either of the two tables (Shown below). Click the "New" button.

Click to see the full size imageStep 5 - Select the user(s) that you want to start the debug log for. Click the "Save" button when you are finished.

Click to see the full size imageStep 6 - You've now created a deug log. You can now go to this same screen to view the events that are logged. In addition, you can download the log if you need to send it over to your development team. To clean things up you can delete individual logs or delete all logs from this screen as well. See below.
